Delight for renovators

- CHRISTIE ANDERSON

A BAYSWATER Rd property has been snapped up for just under $ 1 million with plans to use the space for a tile outlet business.

A local buyer bought 351 Bayswater Rd in Garbutt, with the sale settling yesterday.

The property is a 3262sq m block of land with a 288sq m warehouse and access from both Bayswater Rd and Leyland St.

NQ Tile Styles director Gavin Wheeler said he planned to use the space to open a tile outlet store to complement his existing business.

“This store will be more for the renovator market on a budget,” he said.

“We’ve had a lot of success serving the local builders so this was a natural progression but moving away from having the fancy showroom, so it’s definitely going to be no- frills. It’s not just going to be tiles, we’re also planning to have other renovator- related products.”

A name for the new business is yet to be decided but Mr Wheeler plans to open next month.

Colliers International agent James Pascoe said the property had been a popular listing, attracting several interested parties during the sales campaign.

“There was quite a bit of interest in the property at the time of the sale and properties like this with great site coverage are always going to attract strong interest,” he said.

“It has two- street access, it’s right near Duckworth St and it’s a warehouse with a big block of land.

“We’re starting to see locals get off their hands and start buying.”

He said the buyer was attracted to the location as well as it being full concrete hardstand. OAKDARE Holdings has moved from Sturt St in the city to a modern office space in Hyde Park, taking on a new lease for the 219sq m premises.

The bulk haulage company is now at 113 Charters Towers Rd after the lease was negotiated by Mark Fitzgerald and Paul Dury of Knight Frank.

Oakdare Holdings accountant Tayla Connolly said while their Sturt St location had offered great exposure they felt it was time for a change.

“We can have an open plan office here which is really popular at the moment,” Ms Connolly said. “We had quite a large sign at our old location which was great when we first came to town for exposure but everyone knows we’re here now and we’ve still got really good street frontage here.

“We just wanted a change of environment.

“This is really like our showroom because when you have people come in this is the first thing they see other than our website so it’s important to us to display our professionalism and how far we’ve come because I can guarantee our first office certainly didn’t look like this.”

Oakdare Holdings offer bulk haulage, civil works and mine works.

They established a Townsville office three years ago and they service most of North and far north Queensland.
