Santo, Beasley reunite to boost Blackhawks

- TRENT SLATTER

THEY were playing for different teams at the start of the season, but Blackhawks foundation players Zac Santo and Daniel Beasley are ready to lead Townsville’s quest for a maiden Queensland Cup title.

Beasley made his Blackhawks return last weekend following a season in France, while Santo rejoined the club back in May as a mid- season recruit from the New Zealand Warriors.

The pair are the only current Blackhawks players to have featured in the 2015 grand final and coach Kristian Woolf said it was a nice boost to have them back on deck this season.

Santo has been particularly impressive at fullback and Woolf said the Charters Towers product was only continuing to improve as he feels more comfortable back in Blackhawks colours.

“We’re starting to see a little bit more impact with what he can do with the ball as he gets more and more comfortable and more and more confident in the group,” Woolf said.

“Ever since he’s come back he’s really helped us in terms of making the tough play or the tough catch.

“He really helps our defensive line with his talk and his commitment to making tackles in the defensive line.”

The Blackhawks had planned for Beasley to make his comeback this Sunday afternoon against Tweed Heads in Hughenden, but Woolf said the club’s inaugural captain hadn’t missed a beat as he came off the bench in last weekend’s win over Ipswich.
