Moped crash kills father
Grieving relatives remember devoted family man as police investigate
A TOWNSVILLE father is being remembered as a loving family man after a fatal moped crash.
Aaron Richard Forster died in a single- vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway near the Mount Low overpass on Wed- nesday night. Members of the 41- year- old’s family told the Townsville Bulletin Mr Forster was a “loving man who cared so much about his family”.
“He was an amazing man,” Mr Forster’s niece Ashly Weber said. “I always remember visiting my uncle and they were always the best visits. We would always look forward to visiting him.”
Police will investigate whether Mr Forster was wearing his helmet properly
An off- duty police officer found the man unconscious near a moped on the Bruce Highway about 10.20pm on Wednesday.
Sen- Sgt Warrick said the off- duty officer started CPR and police and other emergency services were called.
“The officer has seen a motorcycle on its side on the roadway,” Sen- Sgt Warwick said yesterday. “A man was found on the side of the road underneath the guard rail.
“He was unconscious and police began CPR because he had no pulse; paramedics attended but were unable to revive the man.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were called to the scene at 10.31pm to reports of a motorcycle crash.
Mr Forster was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sen- Sgt Warrick said the moped was found about 15m away from the deceased and a helmet was located 20m away. “We don’t know whether the helmet has come off on impact,” Sen- Sgt Warrick said.
“Police will be investigating whether the helmet was being worn in accordance with safety regulations.
“We’re not saying he wasn’t, but people need to make sure they are wearing a helmet in the way it is designed to be worn.”
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident and police are seeking witnesses to come forward with information.
Sgt Robert Nalder said speed had been ruled out as contributing to the crash, while drugs, alcohol and fatigue were all being investigated as potential factors.
