Tigers on alert over Bulldogs

- KEAGAN ELDER

HERMIT Park Tigers coach Jamie Fogg is expecting today’s top- of- the- table clash against Thuringowa Bulldogs will be a battle decided by the ruckmen.

Fogg said his tall man Matt Conroy was this week back in town having returned from the Gold Coast Academy duties.

“( Conroy) only transitioned to AFL about three years ago,” Fogg said.

“He’s moved to the Gold Coast to start his AFL career.”

He said the 17- year- old 1.96m rising talent was on an AFL development scholarship.

But Fogg said the Bulldogs boasted an equally talented ruck.

“Bulldogs probably have one of the best ruckman on the ground this year, John Nolan,” he said.

Nolan has played nine matches this season and has been ranked best six times.

The Tigers, sitting top of the AFL Townsville senior ladder, have met the Bulldogs twice this season with each club claiming win.

The Tigers are on an eightgame winning streak. The Bulldogs were the last team to beat Thuringowa in Round 5 in May.

A quirk in the fixture means the two grand final favourites will play twice in the last four weeks of the regular season.

Today’s Tigers v Bulldogs game kicks off at 3pm at Neil French Oval and they will meet again on August 11. In the other fixture, Northern Beaches Suns play Curra Swans at North Shore at 3pm.
