Walking wounded return to training

- with North Queensland Cowboys player Michael Morgan

WEDNESDAY marked four weeks since I had surgery to my arm and it’s great to say my recovery is ahead of schedule.

I ran for the first time earlier this week, I’ve been back doing lowerbody weights and my arm feels good. Returning to training has been a real highlight in my recovery.

There’s still a lot of work to go, but completing another step is always a good feeling.

I must admit I was pestering our club physio Steve Sartori to get me out there running again, but Steve wanted to give me a bit more time and obviously he knows best.

I’m part of a small recovery group at the club, and we had a really good piece of news this week when Sam Hoare returned to training.

Sam injured his knee earlier this season and he’s been doing all the hard work to make sure he’s back bigger and stronger.

It can be tough being away from your teammates but at the same time we still have a role to play.

Bringing some positive energy and encouragement to the group can be part of the role when you’re injured and it keeps us involved.

We’re not always around the team, but when we are we want to support the boys and play our part.

I know the season has been frustrating at times for our members and supporters, but there’s still a chance to finish the season well and we want to give our members and supporters something to cheer about.

It’s also important when you represent this club that you’re always giving it your very best, and that’s what our players will do for the remainder of the season.

There is still plenty to play for, and it goes without saying we want to send JT out with the best possible finish to the year.

Last week’s game against the Raiders was very disappointing because for 60- 70 minutes we played good footy, but the score blew out near the end when the Raiders scored three late tries.

The players were obviously a bit deflated on Monday, but they have been training really well and putting in the hard work at training – as they have done all year – in preparation for a big game against the Dragons tomorrow.

Have a good weekend and go Cowboys!
