CLUDEN’S DAY FOR FROCKS, FILLIES
Jockey Bonnie Thomson with galloper It And A Bit ahead of Ladies Day at Cluden Park today.
TIME to get out your best frocks and fascinators for the annual Townsville Turf Club Ladies Day.
Townsville Turf Club chief executive Cassandra Cazzulino said today’s race day expected to draw between 2500 and 3000 racegoers to Cluden Park.
“It is the little sister to the Mater Townsville Cup,” she said.
“The numbers are important but quality is even more important. This will kick off what I expect to be one of our best winter carnivals ever.”
The day will feature seven local races, a pop- up bar serving espresso martinis, fashions on the field, live music and a beauty bar for make- up touch- ups.
Ms Cazzulino said the corporate precinct was already sold out and it promised to be a great day.
“We’ve got a lot of women who come back every year,” she said.
“It’s also a social backdrop to hens parties, birthdays … we see everyone coming to celebrate and it’s great that they choose the day to do that.
“Some of the bar staff might have their arms fall off from the thousands of martinis they will be making.”
Gates open at 11am with general admission $ 25 and children under 18 free.
Free buses will be running to the track from The Ville Resort- Casino, where the official after- party will also be held.
