BOOST F OR COWBOYS AS L OYAL FANS SIGN

- SAM BIDEY

DESPITE their struggles on the field, footy fans have stuck by their beloved North Queensland Cowboys with the club recently hitting the 20,000 member mark for 2018.

To celebrate the milestone, the Cowboys will be saying thank you with a dedicated Members Appreciation Round this week.

The Cowboys reached their all- time membership high in 2017 with 22,278 supporters signing up, and the club is calling on fans to continue to get behind their team.

The Cowboys sit in 15th on the NRL competition ladder but their membership numbers rank much higher. Data collected by the NRL in May showed only five clubs had 20,000 members.

Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner said member support was crucial to the club.

“To have 20,000 fans from around the region and beyond backing us makes us feel strong as a club,” Mr Tonner said.

“We’re a club that represents our region in our community work and I think 20,000 members validates what we’re about, and gives us that passion and desire to keep going.”

As well as enjoying great benefits and being part of the Cowboys family, members are supporting a diverse range of club and Cowboys Community Foundation programs that give back to the region and create positive social outcomes.

Ayr resident Wayne Johnstone was delighted to discover that his nineyear- old son Colby was the 20,000th member to sign up for 2018.

“This was Colby’s first NRL game and it was important for us to join as members for the whole experience,” Mr Johnstone said.

“The single- game membership worked for us and gave us the chance to see JT live before he retires, which was Colby’s goal.”

The club’s Member Appreciation Round will be a week- long celebration of membership, leading into Cowboys v Knights at 1300SMILES Stadium on Friday July 27 , followed by the annual Members Carnival on Saturday.
