Brothers in TDRL box seat

-

BROTHERS have moved to outright first on the Townsville and Districts Rugby League ladder after scoring a hardearned 40- 18 win over Western Lions yesterday.

Jordan Kenworthy and Sam Foster were the standout players for Brothers, who moved to the top following Herbert River’s shock 16- 14 loss to Norths in Ingham on Saturday.

The Crushers and Norths scored three tries each, with only a conversion by Devils halfback Nathaniel Bowman separating the teams.

The win for Norths over the pacesetting Crushers came after a disappointing run of form featuring three straight losses to Lions ( 42- 12), Charters Towers ( 32- 22) and Brothers ( 64- 6).

Brendan Spinda scored a brace for the Crushers and David Casale crossed for the other, while Nat Luby, Christian Power and Damon Rahihi scored for Norths.

The win was Norths’ fourth for the season, and handed Herbert River just their second defeat of the year since losing to Brothers in Round 1.

Brothers are now in the box seat to win the TDRL minor premiership.

“It was a good result for us, especially going into the bye,” Brothers coach Dave Ackers said. “It makes for a happier two weeks away from footy.

“We had a few dropped balls early in the half, but we came together and were far better with our ball handling after halftime.”

Charters Towers beat Burdekin 60- 14 in the weekend’s other game.
