Firm calms worries on cremation
THE owners of a planned crematorium and funeral parlour at Railway Estate say there will be no smell or issues for people living nearby.
Plans have been lodged with Townsville City Council for the development to be built at 1- 3 Railway Ave, Railway Estate.
At the moment there is a vacant commercial warehouse at the site, which was previously a showroom. It is opposite the Ross Island Hotel and there are houses nearby.

Co- owner Neville Boyle said people would not know the crematorium was there when it was built.
“The stack will be about 3m above the roof line,” he said.
Mr Boyle said it would emit about one tenth the amount of emissions that come from a car exhaust.
In a request for information from the council, the development says “the proposal involves no excessive is behind noise or air quality impacts that would exceed that of the existing use or any envisaged low impact industry zone uses”.
Mr Boyle’s wife Lori Boyle will run the facility. She said the business had outgrown its Townsville home.
At the moment bodies have to be taken to Bowen to be cremated and Ms Boyle said this would make things much easier for families.
In their development application, Townsville Crematoriums submitted an air quality assessment which was part of an application for a proposed crematorium in Mackay’s city centre.
This development was proposed by Whitsunday Funerals and Crematorium, which Mr Boyle’s brother Jeff Boyle owns.
The application for the Mackay development was rejected in a bitter stoush with Mackay Regional Council and has ended up in the Queensland Planning and Environment Court.
The proposal is open comment until August 13. for public
