MAKING EVERY STEP COUNT

- YEAR GEORGIE DESAILLY 11, ST MARGARET MARY’S COLLEGE

HIGH SCHOOL. Two little words, one big concept. When the moment comes around, it can be exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.

I look back at my first day attending St Margaret Mary’s College with such clarity and fondness.

While I had the usual mixture of eagerness tinged with apprehension, it immediately vanished as I was instantly embraced by the welcoming smiles of the staff and students of the college.

The visible sense of genuine kindness and the feeling of belonging that was present throughout that day instantly made me feel at ease.

Before I knew it I was ushering my parents out faster than ever before, never once looking back.

Marking 55 years last February, the college has educated thousands of students, enabling them to experience academic success in an environment that breathes life into curiosity.

Esteeming all opinions and beliefs while providing a safe and welcoming learning area, the college allows all students to reach their full potential and discover their own gifts to bring to the faith- filled community.

It is this marvellous foundation that enables the young women of the college to grow with a strong sense of spirit, faith and purpose throughout their schooling years.

The values that are firmly ingrained in the Catholic faith – Compassion, Respect, Honesty and Justice – are embedded throughout every aspect of college life.

With the continuing advancement of technology in today’s contemporary age, the academic program is a coherent embodiment of the principles of a quality, modern education, equipping young women with the knowledge and capability for life after the college.

The school spirit at St Margaret Mary’s College is exceptionally strong and the opportunities available are endless.

Ensuring all young women develop both socially and academically, students are active in shaping the life of the college.

That can be via participation in assemblies, involvement in a variety of extra- curricular activities or through the numerous leadership roles available in the cultural, sporting and community areas.

When reflecting upon the amicable learning environment, many owe it to the dedicated teachers, staff and parents of the college.

The supportive networks from all areas of the school encourage students to perform to the best of their abilities and maintain an efficacious purpose amid their studies.

I can say without a doubt that any individual who has the privilege to become a part of the tapestry which is St Margaret Mary’s College is truly fortunate.

After all, once a Maggie, always a Maggie.
