Palmer’s offer is surely better than nothing

- SANDRA CHESNEY, Jensen.

IN REPLY to Denise Allen ( TB, 24/ 7) on my recent letter regarding the reopening of QNI and the creation of jobs.

Denise, thank you for the chance to revisit the QNI subject again from my ivory tower. By the way, Denise, I don’t recall you ever attending meetings with the workers fighting for their jobs.

But perhaps you were too busy wasting your energy hating Clive Palmer, to see the devastation to the community.

Denise, I do not give a fig who opens the refinery as long as there are permanent jobs created – so if you have some other identity who is willing to reopen QNI than please let them come forward.

The State Government has admitted to funding finance to a Chinese airline to provide a service from Beijing to Brisbane last year and now this service has been withdrawn ( our money).

The State Government also provides finance for renewables to overseas companies.

From your letter you’re not in favour of giving our taxpayers’ money for Australian private companies, to provide about 800 jobs in Townsville.

Trouble is you are shooting Townsvillians in the foot since our government is more than happy to give money to overseas companies for little or no jobs.

The question people should ask is: “What are our three Labor state MPs and our Federal member, doing to get the jobs for Townsville?”

Why are they not putting politics aside and working for the interests of the people?

The Government bent over backwards for a battery making plant to start up, yet QNI jobs are already here.

Self- centred political and business bias is killing our local economy. Mr Palmer says when he opens QNI he will pay back the money owed. If his promises are not kept then take him to task and ensure he pays.

The community has to have an honest debate about the prospect of QNI reopening and the impact it will have on the Townsville community and economy.
