O’Toole whinges instead of helping electorate

- IAN MACDONALD, LNP Senator for Queensland.

CATHY O’Toole continues to whinge about the fact there’s no Federal commitment to the Townsville Port Authority for the channel widening project.

There is every chance this may be forthcoming once the Commonwealth carries out due diligence on the proposal – something Bill Shorten and his voice here in Herbert clearly do not understand.

I would ask Ms O’Toole how much taxpayer funds she has wasted on advertisements telling us all how Malcolm Turnbull has “done nothing” for Townsville. Surely that money could be better spent on the good people of Herbert?

Just weeks ago, the Federal Government committed $ 96 million to James Cook University through the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility.

Earlier this month I announced almost $ 1.3 million for Building Better Region initiatives here in Townsville.

Also $ 5.3 million was also allocated to three local councils under the Financial Assistance Grants program.

Then there are the almost 70,000 residents and 13,000 small to medium local Townsville businesses which are also benefiting from significant tax cuts, which Cathy O’Toole opposed.

Every single one of these funding commitments to Townsville has occurred in the past eight weeks.

I would call on the Member for Herbert to stop with the Labor lies and get on with the business of delivering for North Queensland.
