Townsville Bulletin

Dales of this town need support

- BEVERLEY MOYLE, Bushland Beach.

READING the Bulletin on Wednesday I came to page five and saw Dale sitting there with a sign looking for work. I look at his face and see desperation.

What’s more, there must be dozens of people in this town in such a predicament.

What is wrong with people? Here is Queensland Nickel wanting to come back into production, why is there not an upswell of workers pacing outside the plant’s gates demanding it be reopened?

You just have to walk through the supermarkets around town and the CBD to see the number of closed shops.

People go into these business giving most times their life savings, “for what” I ask? No work, no money to buy anything.

The State Government and our Labor representatives do not give a damn – all I hear is hate towards Clive Palmer.

Can’t we get past the hate for him?

I don’t pretend to understand what happened at the plant, but I do know quite a few people whose lives were badly affected by the closure.

Can’t we think of the people like Dale desperate for work?

Sandra Chesney writes a great letter stating the obvious. Is Sandra the only person who can see the writing on the wall? Come on Townsville, don’t wait for one person to do all the work, start protesting for jobs.

Every day we see people loosing their jobs. Maybe we do not take as much notice because their numbers are small, but now large numbers are coming to the fore, just look at banks and Telstra. Things are happening in this country and in our cities. Do we all have blinkers on? We, the citizens, have people power. It’s not enough for Malcolm Turnbull to come to town, kiss a few babies and then fly out. Get behind the Dales of this town and put up a fight.
