Townsville Bulletin

MP out of his depth

-

I FIND it extremely embarrassing that we have Senator Ian Macdonald who clearly does not understand the urgency behind the Townsville Port widening project.

In reading Townsville Bulletin’s articles I’ve noted there was a business case for the port and it was handed down at the start of this year. So what’s the holdup, Senator Macdonald?

So far we’ve heard crickets from his Liberal National Party on funding this project. As a resident I can see clearly that this project not only benefits Townsville in job creation and tourism but also assists locals with our escalating fuel costs. Again, as a resident, if even I can see the benefits, why are we still stalling?

I commend the Townsville Port in all their efforts to bring this project to fruition. The State Government I’ve read has contributed funds and I am well aware that Cathy O’Toole has a $ 75 million commitment as well.

Yet the LNP is persistent in refusing to fund this project, which only displays the party’s complete disregard for our community.

Last time I checked Senator Macdonald, the funding you say you’ve committed to JCU is a loan. Now I don’t have a degree in business but a loan is something the university will have to pay back, I assume with interest as well. So, in fact, what you have given James Cook University is a debt.

The only issue this senator stood up for is his own entitlements. This speaks volumes and demonstrates he only goes to bat for his own self- interests and not of his community. This may, in fact, be the reason why his own party kicked him off his Senate seat.

As far as I’m concerned, Senator Macdonald likes to lay claim to things he hasn’t delivered or achieved and is the biggest whinger of them all.

As a person who will be voting purely on policy at the next Federal Election, I can say hand on heart my vote will not be going to the Liberal National Party. SALLY IRVINES, Hermit Park.
