Pizza outlets help deliver more jobs

- TONY RAGGATT

RAPID growth in a Townsville pizza franchise has prompted a search for 40 new staff.

Domino’s franchisee Nathan van Jole made the call for new team members yesterday in roles from pizza makers to “delivery experts”.

“We don’t always have a requirement for 40 people but we never seem to be able to keep up with demand so we do usually have some positions available,” Mr van Jole said.

“We have expanded over the last year quite rapidly and our workforce is quite transient. We employ a lot of students and jobs do pop up quite frequently.”

Mr van Jole’s franchisee group has opened three new stores at Kelso, Mount Louisa and Bushland Beach, bringing its number of outlets to seven across the region.

The group was recently a finalist at the Queensland Training Awards 2018 for the Small Business of the Year Award in North Queensland.

“We offer a school- based traineeship for our junior staff which allows them to get a Certificate III in Hospitality,” Mr van Jole said.

“The certificate contributes towards their Grade 12 certificate and is a great opportunity for young people to get ahead and get a qualification under their belt while they are still studying at school.

“Generally, it takes our team members around eight to 12 months to complete the course, in conjunction with their employment, which includes online information and face- toface training in- store once a month.

“The program builds on their understanding of food safety and improves their skills in customer service,” Mr van Jole said.

“Many of our team members who have done the traineeship have gone on to become store managers.”

Mr van Jole said they were looking for 10 in- store team members for both the Aitkenvale and Kirwan stores, and a further 10 to 20 “delivery experts”.

Domino’s recently moved to the Fast Food Award providing among the highest wages in the industry including penalty rates.

Mr van Jole said anyone interested in applying for a position should visit jobs. dominos. com. au or head into a store with a resume.
