Cathy O’Toole’s songs of inspiration

-

HERBERT MP Cathy O’Toole ( pictured) always has the community in mind — as reflects in her top five favourite songs: 1. I Am Woman ( Helen Reddy) The lyrics in this song are timeless — and as the first woman to win the seat of Herbert in 115 years and the first person to win the seat of Herbert for Labor in 20 years I believe that I have smashed that glass ceiling. 2. Try ( Pink) This song is a reminder to never give up, which I believe is particularly prudent in today’s society. 3. Sound of Silence ( Simon and Garfunkel) I get a sense of calmness when I listen to this song. I think the melody particularly allows for reflection. 4. Amazing Grace Amazing Grace is about overcoming struggle and adversity and also living our ones values. 5. Working Class Man ( Jimmy Barnes) This is a salt- of- the- earth song and currently truly reflects the sentiment of this community. I come from a working class background. The energy in this song really livens up people’s spirits and it is a song that every Australian can sing along to.
