Greedy politicians pushing coal cause world of pain

-

I THINK we have a choice as to whether we live on a happy healthy planet. It seems politicians think they are living on another planet.

They must think they can pollute our Earth and pump out greenhouse gases with magically no consequences.

They are wrong, there are consequences. Anthropogenic ( human made) climate change is real and we are getting poisoned by ourselves.

Greed for money and power can be a driver of these people. They think they can live a privileged life and leave the next generation to pay the debt.

But now it’s all happening too fast, the consequences for the greedy and irresponsible actions of humanity are happening right now, before our very eyes.

It is a disgrace that George Christensen has gone to Japan to lobby investors, asking them to come and build a coal- fired power station near Mackay.

The so- called HELE and “clean coal” has been proven to be a big lie, a marketing ploy.

There is simply no such thing as clean coal burning or clean coal. At the most there can be a tiny percentage of difference from filtering or lower ash content. It is still way too much to be called safe or clean.

How could our representatives work towards bringing dirty poisonous smog to our beautiful area?

They are working against the best interests of their people, for their own personal short- term gain.

Even if money is all you care about – even if you don’t care about climate change, or poisoning yourself – cheaper power bills are not going to come from building new coal power stations.

Renewable energy such as solar is now much cheaper and more efficient than coal power.

Of course the Minerals Council, coal companies, other fossil fuel companies and those they pay ( such as Mr Christensen) will try to manipulate us, to extract as much money as they can from the population on the way out of the dying coal industry.

Just look at Adani – the master manipulator has our politicians eating out of his hands, and inviting Adani to come and wreck our farmlands, water, air, cultural sites, and even put existing coal mining jobs into a down turn.

And all for what … the greed of a few politicians and corporate CEOs.

We want clean air, clean water and cheaper electricity.

The only way to do that is through solar and other renewable energy systems that are actually clean – unlike toxic coal.

We are not stupid, we won’t be manipulated into thinking coal is clean or cheap.

SUNNY EASTON,

Mackay.
