Action long overdue

-

THE fires that are burning bright at night are not your neighbour having a sausage sizzle but your neighbour’s car being sizzled for fun!

For a short while, probably because of the cold nights, we were spared the sound of sirens and it seemed like the crime epidemic had loosened its grip on our city.

But as the nights warmed up, the night shift of thieving scum rolled back into action with a vengeance.

The tally for 10 nights stands at more than 40 vehicles stolen and nearly three times that number of houses broken into and belongings taken.

The Queensland Government has turned its back on us and unleashed the offenders to plunder the elderly and vulnerable that are easy marks.

The release to reoffend policy it has adopted has the elderly living in fear. Some are too afraid to even water the garden during the day for fear of being robbed or bashed.

If this doesn’t offend you, it should and if you haven’t yet been hit, don’t worry, they are working hard to get to your place soon.

By returning three Labor members last election our premier thinks we must like what is happening up here and is not interested in a solution.

We need to stop accepting being punished for choosing to live here and hold our three local members of Parliament accountable for the sorry state our city is in.

The time to get angry and force them to act is right now! MIKE ABRAHAM,

Idalia.
