Palmer trying to do the right thing for our city

-

I AM an unimportant 75- year- old pensioner with no finances at all and I am on the downhill side of the mountain, but I can still have an opinion.

I refer to Clive Palmer and his battles to get his refinery up and going. In Australia, we pride ourselves on “the fair go” and if we think back to when the refinery was firing at its best, Clive gave cars and holidays to all his staff, which they gratefully received, he put money into the Townsville Fury Soccer and built a dinosaur park down south.

He has now given money to Townsville Gymnastics and offered it to another sport, which refused it.

I do not know Clive or any of his previous employees and I do not know if and what he may owe them, but surely to get these people back to work may bring the fruits they deserve.

The man, regardless of the past, is trying to do the right thing for the city, so why don’t all parties drop all these ridiculous lawsuits and work together to give him his go ahead?

I do not believe whatever he does will revive the CBD and I don’t believe a new stadium will either, because while we have the Willows, Stockland, Domain, Castletown and other smaller centres, why would anyone need to go into the city?

And as far as the stadium is concerned, while they may pick up supporters closer to the city, I know of many that will not renew their membership from this side of town.

But if we want the rest of our city to thrive, give Clive his wishes and make a lot of families happy again. WAL WARREN, Kelso.
