Department needs to closely vet tenants

-

RE: Letter to editor ( TB 31/ 7), “Neighbour nightmare gets worse”.

The woman who lives in public housing in Railway Estate has my deepest sympathies.

I, too, live in public housing in West End, but I was super lucky.

I guess it’s all about where one chooses to live, and fortunately I chose the quietest area. Well, except for the odd chopper and fighter jet, late at night you can hear a pin drop.

Unfortunately, intending tenants are not vetted thoroughly enough.

Too many people with bad attitudes are falling through the cracks.

They are mixing young and elderly people together in the one block, and therein lies the problem. The young ones like everything loud, while the elderly ones like big mobs of peace – the more peace, the better.

I’m fortunate, because in my units, everyone’s more or less in the same age bracket, so there’s no problem with noise.

The Department of Housing doesn’t get it right all the time.

They tend to be a bit insensitive sometimes in slotting these troublesome tenants into the wrong units, and this is where the trouble brews, which can only escalate over time.

I only hope that woman in Railway Estate gets satisfaction.

No one should have to put up with that crap. D. BILTON, West End.
