Townsville tops regions for new personal insolvenci­es

TOWNSVILLE recorded the highest number of new debtors in regional Queensland who entered a personal insolvency in the June 2018 quarter.

The city also had the highest number of personal insolvenci­es in the March quarter.

There were 1314 debtors reported to have entered personal insolvency in re- gional Queensland in the June quarter, according to the Australian Financial Security Authority.

This number rose by 86 debtors, or 7 per cent, from the March quarter.

Townsville had 128 new debtors, followed by Ormeau- Oxenford on the Gold Coast with 104 debtors and Mackay with 79.

There were 90.4 debtors per 100,000 people aged 18 and older in Townsville.

This was far higher than the 70.7 new insolvent debtors per 100,000 people aged 18 and over outside of Brisbane and higher than the Queensland average of 67.9.

The highest rate of personal insolvenci­es in regional Queensland was in Gladstone, with 124 debtors per 100,000 people.

In greater Brisbane there were 1128 debtors reported to have entered a per- sonal insolvency in the June quarter.

Townsville also featured highly in the business- related insolvenci­es list in regional Queensland, reporting the equal highest with Toowoomba, with 16 debtors each.

There were 228 debtors who entered a new business- related insolvency outside of Brisbane.

This number fell by four debtors from the March quarter.
