Broncos go- to guy studies JT’s ways

- PETER BADEL

ANTHONY Milford has revealed he has begun watching footage of Johnathan Thurston as Brisbane’s $ 1 million man leaves no stone unturned in his quest to break the Broncos’ premiership drought.

The dangerous Milford will have one final chance to tuneup for the finals when he faces a Manly side headlined by Queensland halfback Daly Cherry- Evans tomorrow at Suncorp Stadium.

It hasn’t been the perfect season for Milford, whose form has run hot and cold, triggering criticism over his status as the highest- paid player in Brisbane’s 30- year history.

But in the past month, Milford’s game management has been vastly improved, with his outstanding kicking game setting the tactical platform for back- to- back boilovers of big guns Souths and the Roosters.

The turning point is Milford’s mindset as Brisbane chase their first title since 2006. The 24- year- old admits he is not a footy tragic who studies games like Cherry-Evans or Cooper Cronk, but vision of Cowboys champion Thurston, who retires today at Robina, is evidence he must work harder.

“I don’t watch too much footy, but I do like watching ‘ JT’,” Milford said.

“He is a freak of a player and he’s had a stellar career.

“I know I am not the perfect player, I have a lot of things to work on in my game, but I have good high- performance staff here who are on my back with whatever I’m doing.”
