BACHELOR BOY

FROM 200KG TO 86KG IN 18 MONTHS

- SAM BIDEY sam. bidey@ news. com. au

NEVER had girlfriend, never even had a date, but after a life- changing weight loss journey one Townsville bachelor is looking for love.

His body may have shrunk significantly, but Rennie Sampton’s heart is as big as ever and he is looking for someone to share it with.

Rennie tipped the scales at more than 200kg just 18 months ago but now weighs in at a trim 86kg.

The 24- year- old underwent a sleeve gastrectomy and slowly but surely started increasing his exercise to improve his life.

“I’ve always been a pretty big boy and I’ve never been ashamed of that, but now that I’ve lost some weight I’m starting to get a bit more confidence and want to put myself out there,” Rennie said.

“The surgery makes your stomach like a little pouch and you can only eat a certain amount.

“So I’m stuck with that for life, but ultimately it saved my life so I’m not ashamed of it at all … some people say it’s the easy way out but it’s really not.”

Rennie is now finetuning his physique by exercising to tone up.

With little to no experience with the ladies, Rennie hopes to find someone who is willing to give him a chance and accept him for who he is.

“I’m a very loyal person because I only had a single mother growing up and I feel like I’m honest and re- spectful,” Rennie said. “I’ll always be honest … if you give me a shot, it’ll be worth it.”

It’s fair to say Rennie is not picky when it comes to his taste in ladies … when asked if he had a type the loveable bachelor replied “just a female”.

“As long as she is confident in herself that’s all that matters to me,” he said.

“She doesn’t have to be a 10 … doesn’t have to be anything, just happy with herself.”

Rennie enjoys hanging out with friends, gaming, going to the movies and has recently delved into stand- up comedy at open- mic nights.

With essentially 24 years of preparation for his first date, Rennie — a confessed “old school romantic” — said he’d like to pick his date up, take her out for a nice meal, and certainly foot the bill.

“It’s not a man v woman thing … I just feel like if I am the one who wants to take someone else out I should pay,” Rennie said.

“I’m in it for the right reasons, rather than looks I’d like to get to know the woman personally before worrying about the cover of the book.”
