YOUNG TALENT SHINES OUT

- KELSIE IORIO

THE speech and drama section of the 2018 Townsville Eisteddfod is under way, with hundreds of talented performers taking to the stage.

The second week of the event is set to bring stacks of quality entertainment, with solos, small groups and large productions all competing.

Eisteddfod secretary Lenore Nielsen said the youngest of the speech and drama competitors took to the stage yesterday, with Prep and Year 1 students performing in Choral Speaking and Recitation sections.

“They’re so cute, you should see the little Preppies,” Mrs Nielsen said.

“We also had bush poetry. That has doubled in size from last year and it was just fabulous.”

Mrs Nielsen said the music sections, which finished on Monday, were the biggest of the competition.

She said the two section adjudicators were amazed by North Queenslanders’ talent.

“Vocal adjudicator Brett Holland has been here before and reckons it’s even better since the last time he was here five or six years ago,” she said.

“The young people are just brilliant; we’ve had a wonderful week.”
