Pervert crept into room of sleeping girl

- SAM BIDEY

A MAN broke into a family home before exposing himself to a nine- year- old girl and fleeing through her bedroom window after she screamed for help.

Clothes were found in the bedroom of the terrified little girl but it took two months for a DNA match to link Alan Mark Fisher to the crime.

Fisher pleaded guilty to two break- and- enter charges and one count of indecent treatment of a child under 12 years old when he faced Townsville District Court on Friday.

Crown prosecutor Monique Sheppard said Fisher broke into a North Ward home late in the night on March 23, 2017.

“He entered the house naked and approached the child who was in the lounge room,” Ms Sheppard said.

“He grabbed the child’s arm and asked the child to be quiet or made a gesture to that effect.”

When the young girl screamed Fisher escaped via her bedroom window, he had put his pants back on but left his shirt behind.

Defence barrister Travis Schmitt said Fisher had been homeless in the lead- up to the offence and had begun using methamphetamine.

Mr Schmitt said his client had entered the North Ward property to go for a swim in a backyard pool.

“So he went for a swim in the pool … that’s why he was naked,” Mr Schmitt said.

“He played with the dog and went inside looking for food.”

The court heard Fisher had twice been convicted of in- decent treatment of a child in similar circumstances.

“I have an enormous amount of difficulty accepting ( his story),” District Court Chief Judge Kerry O’Brien said.

“He takes his clothes off and goes into a house where there is a sleeping child.”

Just four days before this incident, Fisher entered the home of an elderly man unwelcomed and when he was confronted asked for something to drink before the man called the police.

He has appeared before court on more than 50 occasions in relation to property crime offences.

“You have an appalling criminal history,” Chief Judge O’Brien said.

Noting 16 months pre- sentence custody already served, Fisher was sentenced to threeand- a- half years imprisonment with a parole eligibility date of September 14, 2018. Mr Schmitt noted it was unlikely Fisher would receive parole.
