Blackhawks big man to savour Suncorp experience

- TRENT SLATTER

BLACKHAWKS under- 20s prop Logan Bayliss- Brow says the chance to step on to the hallowed turf of Suncorp Stadium in tomorrow’s Queensland Cup Colts grand final will be a dream come true.

The former Ignatius Park College student will be charged with laying the platform for the Blackhawks as they come up against the Norths Devils in the premiership decider.

It will be a huge occasion for the young Blackhawks as they chase the club’s first premiership and Bayliss-Brow said he was keen to savour every moment. Bayliss- Brow was close to playing at the iconic Lang Park when he was 18th man for Queensland in this year’s Under- 20s Origin and he said he was pumped to finally get the chance in the grand final.

“Every kid from Queensland dreams of that,” the Kingaroy product said.

“It’s not every day you get to play in a grand final and it’s always good to get the opportunity to play at a big stadium.

“Everyone’s embraced the week and we’re just trying to enjoy it the best we can.”

Coach David Tangata- Toa said playing at Suncorp Stadium was a nice reward for his players after winning the minor premiership in their first season under the Blackhawks banner.

“I asked that question and only four or five of them raised their hands to say that they’ve played there before. They’re all really excited and it’s going to be a pretty good opportunity,” he said.

“They’ve seen State of Origin and those Broncos- Cowboys games that have been classics over the last couple of years at Suncorp so I’m sure they would’ve hoped one day they’d get to play there.”

Bayliss- Brow has been dominant for the Blackhawks up front and that forward battle will be crucial against a Norths outfit that has won eight in a row heading into the grand final.

The Cowboys- contracted prop felt the Blackhawks were close in their 18- 14 loss to the Devils in the semi- finals and he was adamant they could go a step further with the premiership trophy up for grabs.

“There’s a lot to take out of it, just determining stuff that works and stuff that doesn’t and the things that we can be better at. It’s pretty much a rehearsal for this weekend,” Bayliss-Brow said. “Everyone’s confident.’’
