Chambers ready for fired up Mitchell

- GILBERT GARDINER

MELBOURNE Storm firebrand Will Chambers wants to get one back on Sydney Roosters game- breaker Latrell Mitchell in Sunday night’s grand final.

The Chambers- Mitchell rivalry intensified during Origin when the NSW young gun stamped his big- game credentials with barnstorming runs.

Mitchell busted 18 tackles and scored two tries across three Origin appearances, while Chambers had 11 missed tackles.

“I haven’t got the wood ( over him) yet,” Chambers said. “We’ve played each other about four times already this year and we are playing each other for the fifth.”

The battle for supremacy on both left and right edges will again be crucial in Sunday’s decider.

Mitchell will be fired up, having been forced to watch last week’s preliminary final from the sideline after copping a crusher tackle suspension.

But Chambers, arguably the best defensive centre in the game, is ready for the showdown.

“He is a big boy and he is hard to handle,” Chambers said. “I know they will be getting him the ball and I will have to be on my game defensively.

“It is another tough night and it will be a tough challenge ... I am looking forward to it.”

Chambers, who typically doesn’t mind baiting opponents on the field, yesterday stopped short of firing the first shot. He responded bluntly when asked if he would try to get under Mitchell’s skin.

“I don’t want to talk about that mate.”

And Chambers, who has been suspended three times already this season, remains nonplussed about a perceived bad boy image, despite admitting he needs to be “smarter in different situations”.

“It’s the media and however I’m portrayed, I’m portrayed,” Chambers said.

“I’d like to think I’m a loving, caring father and a great friend to the boys at the club.

“That’s footy, that’s life. I live in front of these cameras and that’s our life printed in media.”
