BIG BRAND STORE TO OPEN
BONDS will open its first Townsville store tomorrow at Willows Shopping Centre as the iconic apparel brand increases its presence in the North Queensland market.
While Bonds product lines such as underwear are sold in various department stores in Townsville, the new shop will feature a wider range.
Bonds Queensland area manager Lisa Gloss said Townsville was the perfect location for a new Bonds store.
“We wanted to be able to service this area of Queensland because the next closest store would be Cairns and then Rockhampton on the other side,” she said.
“Willows is a centre that is very family- friendly and they have a lot of redevelopment going on right now as well, so we decided it was a really good place for us to bring a Bonds store to Townsville.
“We’ve got a really big range of products in this store and not only Bonds but our sister brands, which is Berlei and Jockey.
“We’re able to bring more Bonds products to Townsville now because we will have more of a range than our wholesalers do.”
The shop will stock baby clothes, kids’ clothes and swimwear, underwear for both men and women as well as activewear and leisure wear.
Bonds was founded in 1915 by Ge- orge Bond, who first set up the company in Sydney as a small importer of women’s hosiery.
Bonds’ underwear, the iconic chesty singlet, trackie, sloppy joe and wonder suit for babies, earned the company a loyal following.
Willows Shopping Centre centre manager Andrew Stallan said they were proud to be introducing such an iconic brand to Willows.
“Bonds is a first to Townsville and we are excited about introducing and offering this brand to our customers at the new- look Willows,” he said.
“This is a continuation of Willows delivering new and exciting brands to our customers.”
Willows Shopping Centre recently underwent a $ 70 million expansion, adding more than a dozen new retailers and 500 extra car parks.
Market Court comprised of the first stage and included a new- look Woolworths and international food offerings.
