TIME F OR KIDS T O SET S AIL

-

TOWNSVILLE Sailing Club is offering children something a little different to do these school holidays.

Next Wednesday it will offer a learn- to- sail day and get kids away from their screens for the day.

Club committee member Leandra Boothby said no experience was needed.

“It’s designed for a range of abilities. It’s a good introduction for sailing,” she said.

“The day will cater for those who have never been on a boat before through to those who have completed a learn- to- sail course.

“They will learn the operations of the boat and how to set up the boat.”

Ms Boothby said the young sailors would get a chance to learn through games as well as some theory. She said the introductory course, designed for children aged between 7 and 17, had grown in popularity.

“It’s something we started last year and found it started to grow,” she said. “It’s a great way to spend the school holidays.”

The learn to sail day will be held from 9am to 4pm. Training will be provided by accredited local instructors and costs $ 100.

Places are limited; to book visit townsvillesailing.com.au.

If you after more high- octane action on the water, the club will also hold its annual North Queensland Sprint Championships Regatta over the long weekend. The regatta will be in conjunction with the Tasar State Titles and 125 North Queensland Titles.
