Fishing retailer angles for boat parking as it lands new spot WORLD OF DIFFERENCE

- CHRISTIE ANDERSON

TACKLE WORLD Townsville has opened in a new location providing more exposure and easier access for customers.

The fishing retailer is now based at 305 Ingham Rd in Garbutt after leasing a 550sq m showroom and relocating from Domain Central.

The new store, which is now open and trading, means fishermen can pull up out the front while towing their boats and duck in to buy bait on their way out to go fishing.

Tackle World Townsville owner Danny Brooks said he had already re- ceived plenty of from customers.

“I wanted easier access for boats because in Domain it was starting to get busier so you couldn’t get boats parked,” he said. “I was missing out on trade for things like bait.

“Also, Ingham Rd is picking up a bit and it’s a really busy road now and I wanted to get more exposure on a main road instead of being tucked away.”

Tackle World Townsville is also opening earlier at 7am to cater to people wanting to stop in and stock up on supplies on their way out fishing.

Mr Brooks, who has owned the positive feedback store for 14 years, said Tackle World Townsville was locally owned and operated and stocked a wide range of fishing and spearfishing equipment.

“I have a lot of exclusive brands, particularly in things like soft plastics and lures,” he said.

“I’m getting more and more specialised rods and the people who work for me all fish, so we have that knowledge.

“I’m about getting the better gear and the more niche gear that Townsville people won’t see in other shops.

“We also do rod and reel servicing as well as servicing spearguns and making rubbers.”

The lease was negotiated by Dan Place and Mark Knight Frank.

Mr Place said the building had been overhauled by the landlord to cater to the needs of Tackle World.

“Location was a driving factor behind the deal,” he said.

“The site, which was previously an old servo, offered excellent exposure with good access and parking.

“The vendor completed significant improvements to the building in order to accommodate Tackle World, including new aluminium shopfronts, suspended ceilings, lighting, airconditioning and polished concrete floors.” Fitzgerald from
