Shoe giant takes first steps in city

A MAJOR footwear retailer has opened its first Townsville store in Willows Shopping Centre.

Platypus has more than 70 stores Australia- wide and has opened a store in Townsville as it expands its reach into previously untapped markets.

The retailer is known for selling on- trend footwear and stocks a huge range of sneakers and other shoes.

Platypus national manager Laura Ghannoum said the retailer was excited to open its first Townsville store, which would feature an innovative fit- out.

“We’re investing in key locations like Townsville and Willows Shopping Centre to help make the Platypus brand more accessible in local and growing communitie­s,” she said.

“On top of an engaging store design, Platypus stores are equipped with state- of- the- art sound systems.

“Music ... art, dance and street culture are pillars of the Platypus brand.

“We sell a large selection of global brands like Nike, Vans, Dr. Martens, Adidas, Timberland and much more.

“We also pride ourselves on our team members, who bring the magic to our stores every day and are passionate about offering customers a high level of service.”

Willows centre manager Andrew Stallan said it was great to bring another brand to Townsville.

“Platypus shoes is another first to Townsville brand at Willows,” he said.

“Willows is thrilled to offer another popular brand for the Townsville community to enjoy.”
