Long wait looms for answers

-

IT DOESN’T look as though those searching for answers regarding the fatal double stabbing at Alva Beach in the early hours of Monday morning will be put at ease any time soon. The case is clearly a complex one. It’s left police officers and investigators scratching their heads as they try to untangle the complicated events that ended in such dire consequences.

In what seems like the blink of an eye, so many lives have been turned upside down. To describe it as heartbreaking is an understatement.

The well- known and respected family of Candice Locke were by her side as she underwent shoulder surgery yesterday.

Candice’s father, Martin, says his daughter’s physical wounds should heal but that the emotional scars may linger longer for the 29- year- old.

While worried for his daughter, selflessly, Mr Locke’s thoughts have immediately turned to the families of the two men who died shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Dean Webber, the 19- year- old who was taken into custody by police for questioning and subsequently released without charge on Tuesday, will also be waiting anxiously to hear what happens next, as well as having to live with the memory of what unfolded.

For the families of father- of- three Corey Christensen and NSW man Tom Davy, a loved one has been lost in mysterious and bizarre circumstances, and having to wait for answers will only prolong the pain, making it difficult to think about how to move on with life.

Burdekin residents aren’t saying much about the dark cloud that has settled over that normally quiet seaside town, but they can’t help but wonder how two men met such a tragic end.

We’re so used to being able to control or explain rationally why situations unfold in our lives, this case has left everyone with a real feeling of helplessness.

Our hearts go out to those families affected and we hope some day soon they get the answers they deserve.
