REUBEN ON MO VE T O CHASE NRL DRE AM
FORMER Townsville Blackhawks speedster Jonathon Reuben is determined to ensure his third attempt at cracking the NRL is a charm as he looks to become the latest player to find another level at Melbourne.
Reuben, who turned 25 yesterday, joined the Blackhawks in their inaugural 2015 campaign after failing to get an NRL chance with the Sydney Roosters.
The winger was in and out of the Blackhawks team in the back half of this year, and has joined Storm affiliate Sunshine Coast in the hope of taking the next step in his career.
He will trial with Melbourne over the preseason and hopes to follow in the footsteps of Josh Addo- Carr, who has gone from Wests Tigers reserve grader to NSW Origin star under Storm coach Craig Bellamy.
Reuben was predicted for stardom after scoring 28 tries in 19 under- 20 games for the Canberra Raiders in 2013.
“It was a tough decision ( to join Sunshine Coast) but I wanted something different and I’m very excited for it,” Reuben said.
“I’ve got a trial with Melbourne in the preseason, and hopefully if things go well I’ll get something.
“I’ve been doing a bit training over the off- season. of
“I’m really looking forward to it and I’m very excited and keen to show them what I can do, and pick up a contract.
“I have really been pushing for this opportunity. The Blackhawks have really helped me the last few years and I’ve enjoyed my time here.”
Bellamy’s preseasons are notorious for being the toughest in the NRL and Reuben is keen to prove he deserves a shot with the beaten grand finalists.
“I’ll be training with some of the best players in the NRL and I want to learn off them, and show what I can do,” he said.
Reuben will play for the North Coast Dolphins when the Queensland Murri Carnival’s men’s division gets under way at Townsville Sports Reserve today.
“There’s a lot of talent out there. It’s good to be a part of it and playing some deadly football,” Reuben said.
