SUSPICIOUS DEATH IN INGHAM
THE death of an Ingham man is the subject of a police investigation after a neighbour reported seeing an altercation in front of his home.
Lynn Godbold found her 66year- old husband Lance collapsed on the floor of their Conroy St home about 6.30am on Wednesday.
Police said Mr Godbold had a head injury, with minor bleeding and blood on his face.
The death was initially ruled non- suspicious.
But information that afternoon from a neighbour, who saw silhou- ettes at the front of the house, changed the course of the investigation.
It is now believed Mr Godbold was involved in an altercation with a 183cm, heavily built man with dark skin between 3.30am and 4.30am.
He was able to crawl back into his home.
Emergency services, called to the home about 6.30am, tried to resuscitate Mr Godbold but were unsuccessful.
Detective Inspector Chris Lawson said police were trying to understand how the fight broke out but revealed it wasn’t unusual for Mr Godbold to be up and about at that hour.
“Once we received further information from members of the public it changed the path forward in terms of our investigation,” he said.
“It’s a bit of a shock. At this stage we want to really track down the person who was involved in the altercation.”
Mrs Godbold, who was upstairs at the time of the altercation, said she, too, was in the dark about what had happened.
“I can’t tell you anything because I don’t know,” she said. “I’m the one waiting for answers.”
Neighbour Elena Russo said she watched emergency services try to revive Mr Godbold.
“I saw them resuscitating but then they shut the door and I couldn’t see any more,” she said.
Another resident said she saw Mr Godbold, a truck driver with concrete company Holcim, come and go from work every weekday.
“I see him, a happy fella, going to work, come home at lunchtime,” she said.
“We’re the quietest street except for speeding cars and young hoons.
“We’ve never had ( an incident like) this, ever.”
The cause of death will be known in a couple of days, according to police, after a post- mortem examination is conducted.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
