SHOW T O LIGHT UP THE NIGHT

-

A HUGE turnout is expected along The Strand tomorrow night to see what promises to be a spectacular fireworks show.

Star 1063’ s Fire in the Sky, Townsville’s “only dedicated fireworks display”, is back for its second year. About 15,000 people packed the waterfront for last year’s event and the crowd is expected to be similar if not higher.

Event organiser and Star 1063’ s promotions and marketing manager Kehley McMahon said last year’s crowd exceeded expectations.

“Last year we had people arriving at 2pm, secur- ing their prime viewing spots, but many forgot their radios,” she said. “Our fireworks show is synchronised to a soundtrack played only on Star 1063, so make sure you get in early, get your prime spot and have a radio, it will make your viewing experience that much better.”

Radio host Cliff “CK” Kern, who has a 10month- old baby named Cedric, said it was a familyfriendly event. “The whole thing is about families,” he said. “It’s one of the last weekends where it will be still be great to go out. We are really taking care of everyone with live entertainment, food and so much more.”

Ms McMahon said the event gave the radio station an opportunity to do something exciting for the community, while investing in local businesses and supporting local performers.

There will be food trucks and local performers at Strand Park from 4pm. There will be free things for the kids to do, including an inflatable playground and other rides.

The Strand, from Kennedy to Landsborough streets, will be closed from 11am- 10pm.
