Party is ill- informed

-

I MUST respond to comments by Robbie Katter MP ( TB, 5/ 10).

The irony here is this is the same date as the tabling of the Termination of Pregnancy Bill.

Quite clearly the Katter’s Australian Party has missed the point entirely, and are truly demonstrating ignorance on woman’s health issues.

I implore all ( MPs, included) to actually read the report and better understand this major piece of legislation before it is debated in the Queensland Parliament.

To Mr Katter, you provide no logical reasoning of why your party is simply just opposing.

I gather it must be Bob’s ( Katter Snr) strongly held view that some will just have to blindly follow.

If you are not willing to listen to health experts in the report, the Queensland Law Reform Commission or to consider the more than 10,000 submissions in this the third iteration of such a Bill, then I will point you to my Chair’s foreword.

It remarks upon my observation of the many women who wrote or appeared before us who live in western, regional and remote Queensland.

It notes their sad decision to seek a termination was often delayed due to lack of access to available services.

Many would report that they had to travel vast distances, and often interstate to access termination services because this archaic law remains in the criminal code.

Heath experts agreed with the QLRC. This belongs in the Health Act, and aligns with many other jurisdictions, such as Victoria which legalised abortion a decade ago.

The reader of the report may be surprised by their results, being the opposite to “the floodgates shall open approach” as purported by some critics.

I implore all MPs to please get across the facts, before making such an important decision on what is clearly a woman’s health issue.

Women deserve to have

?? NO LOGIC: Robbie Katter appears to have little understanding of women’s issues, says MP Aaron Harper. ??
