This ‘ team’ approach is making losers of us all

- J BLACKMAN, Bohle.

I DID call it that after the first local “election” ( sham) that with “Team Hill” or “Team Arlette”, we would lose all sense of a viable, operational, forward- thinking local government.

Having “teams” in a local council flies in the face of what a council is set there to achieve in the first place. Councillors are there to represent their constituents in their individual divisions as not all issues are blanket issues for each division in Townsville, and not be a mass of head- nodders for the Mayor. Having “teams” stifles creative debate and vision.

Since having this “team”, Townsville has taken a noticeable change for the worse.

All you had to do was read Tuesday’s Bulletin front page with local councillors claiming our top priority is for a lagoon.

Holy hell! Flinders St mall “redevelopment”, Cotters Markets, a stadium that most of us didn’t want and wasteful spending for things that didn’t need fixing in the first place is what this “team” has delivered us. And when one of our mute state reps gets on TV to comment “it is very distressing when weapons are used in armed robberies”, it should be a sign we have dropped the ball Townsville on who we have representing us.

They can blame the GFC all they want for the start of this downturn but in truth, it is because they are a “team” with no vision for the greater community.
