Hard to find a coffee at night

-

WHERE can you get a late- night coffee in Townsville?

Macca’s seem to have the stranglehold on this service, but we found it lacking last night.

One store that closes at 11pm had their machine turned off before 10.30, so no coffee there.

We went to another Macca’s, who offer 24hour service. They had their toaster turned off, we asked for coffee and raisin toast, after much haggling we got the raisin toast.

We were told the toast couldn’t be prepared for us as the cafe person had gone home.

Macca’s told us all the raisin bread was frozen and the toaster would take 20 minutes to heat up.

When I mentioned that as Macca’s had forced the smaller operators out of the late- night coffee market then they should be offering full service. We got what we wanted.

So if Macca’s consider their late- night service sufficient then they need to look at what they do.

They have the monopoly of the market and are now busy screwing it down.

In Ingham’s Macca’s last week the coffee machine was turned off and their shop was full of customers. No coffee there and they are the only cafe open in Ingham, so it appears it’s burgers and Coke or nothing.

We had arrived in Townsville on the late flight in, the airport cafe is well and truly closed by that time.

So who readily serves coffee ( cappuccino) and a snack up to midnight in Townsville?

It’s certainly a tough gig trying to buy a latenight coffee. HEATHER BYRNE, Cranbrook.
