Brothers unstoppable
BROTHERS women’s football coach Steve Laughton has lauded his side’s tenacity and physicality after they secured the season treble with a 4- 1 Crad Evans Shield victory over Edge Hill United on Saturday.
A brace to Eboni Fraser and goals to Anita Price and Theresa Allan handed Brothers the win over the Cairns champions, adding to their recent Townsville premiership and grand final crowns.
Brothers led 3- 1 at half- time and went on with the job in the second half.
“They’re a good team. Edge Hill won their competition in a canter,” Laughton said.
“It probably set it up for us because we’re used to difficult games every week.
“Our premiership wasn’t decided until basically the last round.
“We played each other three times, from game one to 21, and you had to turn up every week.”
Laughton said they outmuscled Edge Hill to finish off their season with every trophy up for grabs.
“I think we were fitter. Edge Hill’s passing game was superb and we talked about that at half- time. They were well drilled,” Laughton said.
“What we lacked in that area. We got them in sheer tenacity and workrate. It was phenomenal from the girls, and it’s been there all year.”
Laughton coached in men’s football until this year, where he took over the women’s premier league
