Willing and far more able

- MADURA MCCORMACK

LOREN Willing had a lightbulb moment last year and decided to throw out her bad habits.

Since then she’s also thrown out her blood pressure medication, her pre- diabetes diagnosis, and lost more than 20kg.

“At the end of last year I had to go to my brother’s wedding and I had to buy a new dress and I was horrified,” she said.

“And then I saw the photos and was even more horrified.”

Mrs Willing began eating healthily and walking around the block. She walked further and further and through her new food habits, had lost 10kg in just a few months.

It all kicked into high gear when she decided to take the plunge and join the bootcamp class near her home, held on the grounds of Heatley State School.

“I’m getting fitter, and getting stronger, gaining muscles,” she said.

“I’ve got four grandchildren and another on the way … I couldn’t keep up with them, couldn’t get down on the floor and play with them. Now I’m running around the backyard with them, I have more energy and my head is a lot clearer.

“( I’m) absolutely addicted to exercise, I feel ill if I don’t actually go.”

Mrs Willing, a former selfconfessed yoyo dieter, said choosing to exercise and be conscious of her health was the best decision she’s ever made.

The 54- year- old is now aim- ing to get stronger and someday fit into a blue evening “goal dress”. She still keeps the dress from her brother’s wedding as a reminder, even though it is now way too big.
