Collaboration offers helping hand to small firms

- TONY RAGGATT

AUSTRALIA’S largest workplace relations specialist, Employsure, has partnered with Townsville Business Development Centre to provide free advice to its members.

The collaboration will give centre members access to services related to Fair Work and Work Health and Safety laws as part of both the centre’s and Employsure’s seminar programs.

Employsure Townsville representative Carina Schmitt said they were happy to help the business development centre help its members.

Ms Schmitt said claims to the Fair Work Commission were rising and represented large costs to businesses.

“If members seek and follow all advice from Employsure and a claim through FWC or WHS arises, they will be indemnified up to a maximum of $ 200,000 per claim and Employsure will manage the entire proceedings on their behalf,” she said.

TBDC CEO Ben Verning said the ever- changing landscape of penalty rates, leave entitlements and WHS regulations was a challenging environment for any business to navigate, particularly small businesses in their foundation years.

“As the peak small business advisory service in the region, we are proactive in developing strategies to help our members remove the risk of timeconsuming, potentially costly and often avoidable dispute resolution processes,” he said. “We’ve already had fantastic feedback following the first Employsure workshop and we’re looking forward to this partnership benefiting many more local small businesses and TBDC members.”
