Arrest for road rage cop punch

-

A MAN has found himself in hot water after a road rage incident where he allegedly punched an off- duty police officer outside Townsville’s largest police station.

Police have alleged a 23year- old man and a 50- yearold off duty police officer from the Burdekin were involved in a road rage incident about 7pm on Saturday.

The men pulled over in front of the Mundingburra Police Station and it is alleged the 23- year- old then punched the officer in the face.

It is understood the man was irate about an overtaking incident a few hundred metres up the road.

Pulling over in front of Townville’s largest police station was likely a coincidence but it meant police were able to respond immediately. The younger man was taken into custody and charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, serious assault of a police officer and driving without due care and attention.

The officer was taken to Townsville Hospital for injuries to his face but was not admitted. The man will face court on November 7. THE body of a 47- year- old man has been found washed ashore at Dalrymple Point in Bowen.

A couple discovered the body on Saturday during an early morning walk in an isolated part of the beach near Wentworth St, the Whitsunday Times reported.

Bowen Police confirmed the man was found naked without any marks on his body, however police are still investigating the cause of death.

“At this stage we don’t know the cause of death and we are waiting a post mortem result/ autopsy which will be done on Wednesday,” Senior Sergeant Craig Shepherd said.

“The autopsy will determine the cause of death.”
