Vinnies dresses for success on big day

- KELSIE IORIO

VINNIES is on a mission to prove that opp shopping is back on trend and better than ever during its Dressed By Vinnies Day tomorrow.

The national event encourages North Queensland fashion lovers and beyond to don their best recycled fashion for the day, snap a photo for social media and use the hashtag #dressedbyvinnies.

Townsville’s St Vincent de Paul acting executive officer Buffy Charles said the social media campaign encouraged people to have fun with sustainable fashion.

“It’s the way of the future, if you can post your pictures on Facebook or Instagram you share the information … you share what’s out there,” she said.

“We want to make sure everyone’s aware of what great bargains they can get from any Vinnies store. It’s really good quality clothing you’re picking up secondhand at an excellent price.

“By shopping at Vinnies you’re actually helping people in your local community.”

There are 17 Vinnies stores across the Townsville Diocese, which stretches from Ingham to Proserpine and west to Cloncurry, with a new “giant” outlet planned for Ayr.

“It’s such a big area to cover,” Ms Charles said.

“Hopefully we’ll open just after Christmas.”

Vinnies staff member and opp shopper Annabel Ryan said there was nothing daggy about hitting up local opp shops to discover hidden treasures.

“I enjoy knowing the work that I do helps the community around me, and being able to pop in and look around at the unique stuff you wouldn’t find in stores,” she said.

“You can find stuff that’s preloved and that you can then love yourself.”
