Australia primed to peak at World T20
WATCH out world, Australia have their eyes on the T20 trophy and have never felt better ahead of a major tournament.
With a clean sweep against Pakistan in a one- day series now banked and six competition points in the ICC Championship tallied, it’s all about the World T20 for the Aussies from here.
Their first of three T20 matches against Pakistan starts today in Malaysia before they open their campaign in Guyana on November 9 against the same team.
It’s ideal preparation and experienced campaigner Ellyse Perry rates the run- in to this World Cup as the best she’s ever been part of.
Following on from a successful tour of India in March, in which the Aussies won all three one- day matches and dropped just one T20 in a triseries to England, they have since swept through New Zealand at home in a T20 series and have comfortably disposed of Pakistan thus far.
The team has never felt better – off the pitch and on it.
“From a preparation point of view, I think it’s the best position we’ve ever been in,” Perry said. “The group and its identity is really strong and every- one knows exactly the kind of role they need to play.
“The professionalism of the group across that, mixed with a really great sense of friendship and camaraderie has been really great.
“You never know until you get to the tournament but I think we’ve done everything we can to be ready to play and it’s been the best prep that we’ve ever had as a group.”
