Riverway Plaza’s jobs bonus

-

TOWNSVILLE City Council has approved a $ 30 million retail development on Riverway Drive, Rasmussen, supporting up to 200 construction jobs.

The Riverway Plaza is a new shopping centre development that will be built over two stages on an existing shopping centre site and includes new and expanded retail stores, and food and drink outlets.

Planning and Development Committee chair Les Walker said the develop- ment would boost the economy and create jobs.

“The Riverway Plaza development is expected to support up to 200 jobs during the construction phase,” Cr Walker said.

“Further ongoing jobs will be created when the project is complete and new shops and cafes are ready to start trading.”

Cr Walker said the project was a vote of confidence in the future of Townsville’s economy.

“Construction is expected to start later this year or early next year with plenty of job opportunities for locals,” he said.

Local councillor Mark Molachino said the Upper Ross was a growing area of Townsville and new projects such as Riverway Plaza would cater to that growth.

“There’s a lot of opportunities in the Upper Ross and this is a major development,” Cr Molachino said.

This application was code assessable and did not require public notification.
