Waste levy garbage

-

SCOTT Stewart defends waste levy logic?

A better head line would have been: “GARBAGE”.

Scott Stewart obeys the party decision to apply a 60plus per cent tax on all Queenslanders trying to do the right thing and dump rubbish at the dump.

Townsville City Council charges about $ 90 a tonne for us to dump our rubbish at our dumps, and yes I do mean our dumps. We the ratepayers pay for everything at these dumps.

But now the Queensland Government has decided that a good excuse to sting us a new tax ( and rake in some more dollars) is because there is a problem with some New South Wales people dumping NSW rubbish in the Ipswich dump.

So now the Queensland Government will charge a waste levy of $ 70 a tonne to every Queenslander, no matter whether you dump your rubbish in Ipswich, or 1500km away in Townsville. ( And let us all be honest with ourselves, do you think NSW people would drive much further than Ipswich to dump their rubbish? They can’t even win three State of Origins in 13 years). This is only called a “waste levy”, because if politicians told us the truth that they are going to tax us 60- plus per cent for us to dump our own garbage in our own dumps, there would be uproar.

Then Scott Stewart tells us they make decisions based on what’s best for all Queenslanders.

Well, Scott, it appears that you haven’t heard, mate. There is a desperately needed water pipeline, that if the State Government doesn’t do what’s best for the people of Townsville and help us with this pipeline then the poor old Townsville ratepayers will have to pay for it and we will go back to having the most expensive household rates in Australia again.

Just as a reminder to our State Government pollies that the new tunnel they are building under a university, that also includes an underground carpark for the university in Bris- Vegas, is going to cost 27 times the amount of money that Townsville’s water security pipeline will cost.

And that tunnel is only one of the many State Government funded projects under way. And do you honestly think uni students can afford to pay for underground parking and toll fees to use the tunnel?

All our political parties are led by buffoons and are followed by people who just agree with them.

And then our Townsville City Council is closing the Deeragun dump, so if you live on the north side of the city you will have to go elsewhere to pay your 60- plus per cent tax.
