BOOMERS WILD ABOUT HARRY

- JON TUXWORTH

TOWNSVILLE product Harry Froling is on the cusp of making his senior international debut after being added to the Australian Boomers extended squad for the next round of FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

The 20- year- old, who is averaging eight minutes, three points, two rebounds and 0.5 assists in his first NBL campaign with Adelaide 36ers, is one of two new faces in the squad alongside Sydney King Kyle Adnam.

Froling helped Australia win silver at the 2014 under- 17 World Cup and will be looking to make his way into the Boomers team for clashes with Iran ( November 30) and Qatar ( December 3), both at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena.

Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis has been impressed by Froling’s early season impact off the bench for Adelaide.

“It has been great to see the impact of some of the younger guys in the early rounds of the NBL. It’s nice to be able to recognise that with their inclusion in the extended team of 24,” Lemanis said. “I know we’re all looking forward to the match- up with Iran.”

Fellow Townsville product Mitch Norton has also been selected after a strong start for new team Perth. The final team will be announced in mid- November.
