SERGEANT BRAD WATTS DSM

Watts, 37, born in Alice Springs and raised in Darwin, joined the army in 1998 and trained as a medic before being posted to Perth’s SASR in 2004. Deployed to Afghanista­n two years later. Received the Distinguis­hed Service Medal in 2008 for leaving the safety of a helicopter to treat a wounded soldier while under enemy fire.

CORPORAL MARK DONALDSON VC

The boy from Dorrigo who transforme­d himself from rebellious teen to one of Australia’s most decorated veterans when he received the first Victoria Cross to be awarded since Vietnam. The 39- year- old joined the ADF in 2002 and served most of his career in the SAS. The father- of- two worked closely with Voodoo Medics and was treated by them during his several tours of Afghanista­n.

CORPORAL JEREMY HOLDER MG

Perth- born Holder, 34, joined the army as a medic in 2002 before posting to 4RAR ( Cdo). Deployed to Afghanista­n in 2006 as a commando medic and later received a Medal of Gallantry for his actions during Operation Perth, when he treated hundreds of casualties including many Afghan civilians.

MAJOR BRAM CONNOLLY DSM

Connolly, 44, served several tours of Afghanista­n and was awarded the Distinguis­hed Service Medal for his leadership in combat. Spent most of his 20 years in the army with 2nd Commando Regiment. He was the commander of Yankee Platoon during the bloody battle of Zabat Kalay.
