Terrible cost of crime

-

I HAD a heartbreaking talk to a woman whose daughter has fled our city to move south.

The girl was only 16 years old but after two break- and- enters and three more attempted break- and- enters in two months, the poor girl is too traumatised to stay.

She cannot sleep at all in the family home as she listens for the sound of some grub creeping into their yard and forcing a lock or window to get in.

Her mum told me how for the past couple of years she had thought the people that were getting robbed were simply careless and until she became a victim she had little sympathy for them.

Now they are selling up to move away in hope that they can buy a better life down south away from the sounds of sirens that fill our nights.

My suggestion was to at least cross the boarder and leave “Queensland the Criminal State” until we get a government that can supply justice and make our streets safe once again.

This story highlights one fact that I found while running for the seat of Mundingburra last year in that those that are not affected by crime have little compassion for those that have been.

Crime costs every single one of us through higher insurance premiums and out of pocket expenses when keys are taken and locksmiths are required and broken windows and doors need replacing.

And yet there is silence from the three members that are supposed to represent us in parliament.

They must know the heartache that their failed policies are having on good people that just want to go to work and return to the comfort of a safe place to call home. Every day the newspapers and televisions are filled with bad news of robberies and home invasions and assaults, but not a word from our state members.

What will it take to make them listen? Some men are getting very angry and this is all

?? CRIME ALERT: Break- ins are costing victims through stress, high insurance premiums and other expenses. ??
