Arron’s kindly actions
A TOWNSVILLE police officer heralded for his kindness said he was just doing his job.
Constable Arron Pawsey, 23, drew community praise for his actions on Monday afternoon, when he helped a woman stranded in a car with an empty fuel tank.
The Kirwan Police Station officer said he had been driving along Gouldian Ave just after noon when he saw the woman in a car on the other side of the road going down Riverway Drive.
“Her car was flashing and she was waving people around her and it didn’t look good,” he said.
“As I drove up to her the light was red so I sat and watched her for a bit and she started bawling, she was on the phone crying.
“I pulled up behind her and her car wasn’t moving and before I could say anything she burst into tears.”
The woman told him she was having a shocker of a day, so he opted to push her car off the road and help her figure out what to do.
“The servo was across the road so I figured they should have a spare jerry can, we’ll just get some fuel, but she said she had no money,” he said.
“I thought: ‘ Well, if this was my wife or partner I’d like someone to help’, so I put fuel in the jerry can.”
Constable Pawsey paid for the fuel and filled her car.
“We literally came from a crappy job, and I thought: ‘ I’d rather do something nice and feel good about it’, after going to that job,” he said.
“It was a hot day … she was losing her job or something, and instead of leaving her there you just push her out of the way and help her out.
“She was really upset and when she realised what was happening she kind of just sat there silent and after that she was really appreciative.
“I don’t know, you just help people – that’s what you do.”
Kirwan Police Station officer- in- charge Senior Ser- geant Jason Brosnan said Constable Pawsey’s actions were an important part of being a police officer.
“Policing is about more than just locking up crooks, it’s about helping the community and giving back,” Sen- Sgt Brosnan said.
